HYDERABAD: Congress MPs from Telangana have decided to issue an ultimatum to the party high command on the issue of according a separate statehood to the region, and they would write one final letter to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi asking her to take a decision before December 9 lest they would be forced to tread their own path.

"The time is running out and the patience cannot be tested anymore further. The MPs have decided to write to Sonia Gandhi for the final time urging the high command to come clear on Telangana before December 9. If she fails to respond, I think the high command must be blaming itself for the further consequence," said K Keshava Rao, former Rajyasabha member and senior Congress leader, who is spearheading the Telangana cause in the party.

While seven Loksbaha members including T Vivek, Ponnam Prabhakar, Gutta Sukhendra Reddy, Rajaiah, K Rajagopala Reddy, and Manda Jaganatham are expected sign the letter to be written in couple days, a handful MLAs and a few ministers from the region including Jana Reddy, and Basavaraaj Sariah are likely to though their weight behind the rebelling MPs.

And a party source said the T-rebels were even mulling quitting Congress and join hands with the TRS in case Sonia Gandhi fails to respond to them positively on Telangana.

As if endorsing this view, Keshavara Rao said the TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao must take the lead to unite all Telangana forces. "In ordered to realize the long cherished dream of Telangana, acquiring political power is important. If we have some 16 Loksabha seats and 90 Assembly seats on hand, then we can make it happen. And onus of taking all protagonists with him lies on KCR," he said.

Taking a swipe on union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde for his ambiguous statement on Telangana, Keshava Rao said T-Congress MPs would support him if he had said the separate statehood issue would be taken up in the winter session of the Parliament to be commenced on November 22. "But, he is not clear in his statement. He has said the issue would be taken up before or after the Parliament session. He only knows what he meant by that. In any case, we will wait till December 9, and decide on further course of action depending on the response we get from the Centre," he added.
