Rajnath Singh was addressing his first press conference after being elected as the BJP president in Bhopal on Sunday afternoon.
He was answering media queries on whether Narendra Modi is likely to be named BJP's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
When asked why the BJP was dithering from naming Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate for the next general elections, Rajnath Singh said, "It is a tradition in the BJP to make such announcements only after it has been decided by the central parliamentary board, which is the the party's highest decision making body. The announcement about the PM candidate will be made at the appropriate time after the parliamentary board takes up the matter."
Rajnath Singh was in the Madhya Pradesh capital to address a massive farmers rally organized by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.
Addressing the farmers gathering, Rajnath alleged irregularities in in the UPA-Centre's 2008 agricultural loan waiver of Rs 60,000 crores.
Rajnath demanded a CBI probe into the irregularities found by the comptroller and auditor general report.
He alleged that under the loan waiver scheme, loans of 3.5 crore farmers was to be waived.
"But when the CAG audited 90,000 such accounts and found that a large number of farmers did not receive the benefit of the loan waiver. Hence, the CAG report should be tabled in the Parliament and an inquiry must be conducted into the scam," the BJP national president said.
Referring to the brutal killing of two Indian soldiers in the Poonch sector near the LoC last month, Ranjnath Singh said that enough was not being done by India to protest Pakistani atrocities at the diplomatic level.
"Two of our soldiers were brutally massacred and the Centre did nothing effective. After the 26/11 attack on Mumbai, the Prime Minister had said that there will be no talks with Pakistan till those involved in the assault was handed over to India," Singh said.
He argued that Pakistan did not co-operate and even denied corresponding with India on the list of most-wanted crawn-up by our government. "We want better relations with our neighbours but Pakistan does not seem to be responding. After the killing of our soldiers, the envoy in Islamabad should have been recalled," Singh added.
Explaining that India also needs to work on an International Water Treaty with China as the neighbour is constructing several dams on the river Brahmaputra. "If we do not work towards a water treaty with China, the state of Assam will dry," he quipped.
