Police suspect a land dispute to be the cause of murder.
Thakur, a prominent BJP leader of the district, was returning on his motorcycle to Nanpur after attending a gram panchayat meeting. It is learnt that Thakur had tried to mediate and resolve a dispute between two groups. When one of the groups refused to budge, Thakur allegedly slapped the leader of that tribal group named as Sardar. Sardar had reportedly told his supporters to avenge insult to him. It is suspected that Sardar along with his supporters had hacked the BJP leader to death.
The matter came to light early morning on Friday, after mutilated body of the BJP leader was found between Modasa and Nanpur. His body bore deep wounds and one of the limbs was dismembered. Wounds suggested that he was attacked with sharp-edged weapons.
Alirajpur Police has pressed into action and raids are being conducted to nab the seven absconding accused.
