BHOPAL: BJP MLA from Ater constituency Arvind Singh Bhadoriya made a startling revelation in the Madhya Pradesh state assembly on Friday morning. Bhadoriya, an MLA of the ruling party in the state alleged that a construction company has offered him a bribe of 50 new vehicles before the upcoming assembly polls as a bribe. In exchange, Bhadoriya was asked to ignore the inferior quality work on highways which the company was constructing in partnership with the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation.

The matter came-up during a call attention motion during the Zero Hour. Bhadoriya who was the second speaker on the call attention swore in the name of God and said that a senior executive of Gangotri Constructions went to him with the offer. The MLA was offered not just 50 new vehicles but also the required petrol and diesel that would run those automobiles during his election campaign. The construction company representative even said that every other leader who would raise an objection to the bad construction has been managed'', Bhadoriya claimed.

But even as Bhadoriya made the shocking disclosure, the Opposition Congress did not react. Two senior MLAs of the Congress party, Dr Govind Singh and deputy leader of Opposition Choudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi, hail from the same Bhind district where the construction company works. Speaking to TOI outside the House, Dr Govind Singh said: The BJP is not permitting the construction company to work. What will the company do? They might have approached the MLA with a bribe offer,'' he said.

The call attention was initially brought-up by Dr Govind Singh, MLA from Lahar. Addressing the House on Friday he said: Construction work of state highway number 45is being carried out by Gangotri Constructions and MP Road Development Corporation. The quality of work is extremely poor between Lahar and Mihona areas and as a result the top bitumen layer has already eroded.'' Sing also pointed out that tree coming in the way of the highway was not being felled and instead the road was being constructed around existing trees. This caused many accidents in the area. He also alleged that private residences were encroaching on the state highway.

Thereafter, Bhadoriya made the bribe allegation. The road in question is an 86km stretch of state Highway 45 known as the Mihona-Lahar-Bhander-Chhirgaon Marg.

Replying to the call attention, state PWD minister Nagendra Singh denied that the construction of the highway was of inferior quality or that the top bitumen layer had eroded throughout the highway. Regarding the bribery charge, Nagendra Singh said he will order an inquiry into Bhadoriya's allegation.
