Batla encounter: Digvijaya Singh reiterates his stand

INDORE: Reiterating his earlier stand for judicial inquiry into Batla house encounter, Congress general secretary Digivjaya Sing on Thursday in Indore said he had asked for a judicial enquiry into Batla house encounter which he felt was fully justified and he stand on his earlier statement.

Digvijaya Singh was talking to media in Indore few hours after Delhi sessions court judgment in which court has hold Indian Mujahideen operative Shahzad Ahmed guilty of killing inspector MC Sharma and termed 2008 Batla House encounter as genuine.

On the judgement of court, Singh said, "I respect the judgement on Batla House. It is for the aggrieved party to either accept the verdict or go into appeal." He added that if his demand for judicial inquiry would have accepted then who know today's judgement would have been different. Singh said he has not seen the judgement and he is not party in it. People who are party in it have to decide whether they appeal against it or not.

Digvijaya Singh had earlier doubted over the authenticity of encounter. He has even termed the encounter as fake and demanded for judicial inquiry into it.

The judgement has once again exposed the habit of Congress general secretary to give controversial and irresponsible statement. However, Singh refused to take back his words even after the court judgement.

Singh also took a dig at BJP leader and senior journalist Chandan Mitra for making a statement against noble laurel Amartya Sen. Economist Amartya Sen had said that Gujarat chief minister Narandra Modi is not secular to become Prime Minister of India. Following he has faced criticism from BJP leader.

Singh said he had not expected Chandan Mitra to make such an uncharitable remark about Amartya Sen. He is obviously in company of narrow minded people. He added humble request to all those who are making derogatory remarks on such an eminent economist as Amartya Sen and not drag him into politics.
