Adressing a press meet in Mumbai on Monday, Saurabh Patel, tourism minister, Gujarat said, "We will continue to aggressively market Gujarat as a tourist destination in India as well as abroad." Among the festivals lined up to attract tourists are the Monsoon festival, which begins on August 3, Tarnetar Fair to be held from September 9 to 11, Navratri festival and the Rann Utsav.
The Monsoon Festival will be a month long event in the hill station of Saputara. The destination is close to three major water falls, Gira, Mayadevi and Girmal Falls. "The Tarnetar Fair is a celebration of ethnic Gujarat's folk-dance, music, costumes and the arts. The fair is centred around young tribal men and women seeking marriage partners. Being the most important fair of Saurashtra region, Tarnetar is attended by more than 50,000 people," said a release issued by TCGL.
The Rann Utsav is held on the arid lands of Kutch. "The specially set up tents give an unusual experience of staying in the wilderness while enjoying the cosy comforts of a star hotel," said the release. The festival is known to attract crowds on the full moon day as it presents a unique spectable of the saline desert shimmering in moon light. Among the activities on offer are kite flying, hot-air ballooning, embroidery and handicrafts making workshops.
