While addressing an election rally at Gaighata in North 24-Parganas, Mamata had allegedly announced several development projects for the district.
The district magistrate has inquired into the matter and the sub-divisional officer of Bongaon, under which Gaighata falls, has sent his report to him. According to the SDO's report there has been no violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Acting on a written complaint from the Left Front, the state election commission has asked the district magistrate, North 24-Parganas to initiate a probe.
Again, the Left Front has cried itself hoarse against the chief minister conducting a political meeting with her party leaders at the state secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting was organised to formulate the party's strategy for the forthcoming panchayat elections.
At the meeting, the chief minister issued guidelines on how MP and MLA local area development (LAD) funds could be used. A Left Front delegation led by Rabin Deb urged the state election commission to look into the "violation" since political meetings cannot be conducted at Writers' Buildings. The state election commission, however, refused to admit the complaint on the grounds that the state secretariat wasn't under the jurisdiction of any panchayat area.
