Talking to the mediapersons at Kartarpur after administering oath to the newly elected sarpanchs and panchs of Jalandhar district, the chief minister said that due to the lacklustre performance of UPA government it was unsure whether it would be able to get this ordinance ratified in the Parliament or not. He said that UPA had copied the Atta-Dal scheme of the state government which was running very successfully and with its expansion, more and more number of people would be benefited from it.
Badal categorically said that Punjab was the first state of the country to implement this pro-poor scheme and as a matter of fact the Union government was now following them.
Replying to a query, the chief minister said that the state government was solidly with the Sikh farmers of Gujarat who were facing the threat of displacement in Kutch region and efforts were being made to get their problems solved. Badal reiterated that the state government was committed to safeguard the interests of these Punjabi farmers who have played a pivotal role in socio-economic development of Gujarat.
Earlier, addressing the large gathering at the function, the chief minister said that the hard working and resilient farmers of the state were on the crossroads due to the wrong policies of the Union Government. He said that constant hike in input costs of agriculture by the Centre coupled with the decreasing margin of profits have broken the backbone of the Punjabi farmers. Squarely blaming the Union government for trials and tribulations faced by the farmers, Badal said that today, Punjab's farmers were reeling under the huge debt of Rs 32000 crore due to the wrong policies of the Centre.
