Sushma demands death penalty in Nirbhaya case

BHOPAL: BJP Lok Sabha leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday demanded "nothing less than death penalty" for the four accused found guilty in the gang-rape of a 23-year-old paramedic student in New Delhi on December 16 last year.

Sushma Swaraj was in the Madhya Pradesh capital on Tuesday to address a special assembly election meeting of party workers. Speaking to reporters soon after the special Delhi court held four accused in the case guilty of gang-rape and murder, Sushma Swaraj said: "Hanging till death is the only punishment that should be given to the four accused. And if they are sentenced with death penalty, this will become a landmark judgement which can be followed in the future to curb such heinous crimes."
