NIA announces cash reward for arrest of accused in Bodh Gaya, Patna blasts

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday released the photographs and other details of five accused wanted for Bodh Gaya and Patna blasts, including mastermind Tahseen Akhtar alias Monu, and announced rewards of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh each for information leading to their arrest.

While a tipoff on Akhtar and another key accused, Haider Ali alias Abdullah, will now fetch the informer Rs 10 lakh from the NIA, a Rs 5 lakh reward awaits those who come forward with information on the whereabouts of the other three accused - Numan Ansari, Taufeeq Ansari and Mojibullah.

Akhtar, son of Mohammed Vasin Akhtar and resident of Maniarpur in Bihar's Samastipur district, is wanted for several other blasts, including the Dilsukhnagar Nagar bombings in Hyderabad on February 21 this year and the 2011 Mumbai explosions. The questioning of Patna blasts suspect Imtiyaz Ali indicated Akhtar as the chief architect of not only the Patna blasts but the July 7 Bodh Gaya explosions as well.

Akhtar, who had been tasked by top IM man Yasin Bhatkal, now under arrest, to recruit youth from Bihar, has eluded the security agencies despite their efforts in 2012 to convince his family to get him to surrender. Though similar efforts landed his colleague Danish Ansari in NIA custody, Tahseen proved a tough nut to crack. A second opportunity to net Akhtar was missed after the news of Yasin's arrest in Nepal was leaked to the media even before any follow-up arrests could be made.

Haider Ali, a close aide of Akhtar, was the subject of a non-bailable warrant issued just a week before the Patna blasts. According to NIA, he is the son of Alam Ansari and his listed addresses are Kariyama village in Aurgangabad, Bihar, and Line Mohalla Doranda in Ranchi.

Names of Haidar, Taufiq, Tariq and Nauman were revealed by IM operative Manzar Imam, arrested from Ranchi in March, as early as October 1. During the questioning in the first week of October, Imam had told interrogators that Tahseen had been camping in Ranchi for some time and had built a Ranchi module with help from one Haider. Haider is believed to have recruited all operatives involved in the Patna blasts.
