CHENNAI: This is indeed a role reversal of sorts. A recent survey by a matrimonial website on 'What Indian women want' has revealed that 51.2% of the female respondents wanted their husbands to help them with household chores while 39.5% said they 'secretly expected their men how to cook'.

And when asked about what they would expect from men when they meet for the first time, 55.6% of them said 'being chivalrous' was important, the survey by Shaadi.com has revealed. Also, 9.3% of the women respondents revealed that they would like their partner to be okay with them being financially independent.

When it comes to the don't list, 46.7% of the respondents said 'to be rude with people from a lower working class' is a big no, followed by 'should not be busy on his phone during a conversation' (39.2%). In terms of the 'top must haves' in a relationship, the most common answers were 'A person who treats me with respect' (48.2%), with 40.5% wanting someone 'who values my job and takes it seriously' (40.5%).

"The result indicates that the modern woman wishes to be recognised for being the strong personality she is. She takes her independence and her choices very seriously," Gourav Rakshit, chief operating officer, Shaadi.com said.
