Indian, Chinese troops exchange pleasantries on Republic Day

KOLKATA: Indian and Chinese troops exchanged pleasantries at a specially convened border personnel meeting (BPM) at Nathu La on Sunday. The seven-member Chinese delegation led by an officer of brigadier rank wished the Indian contingent on the occasion of Republic Day.

This was followed by a cultural programme in which both sides participated.

Republic Day was also celebrated at the Trishakti Corps (33 Corps) headquarters at Sukna in north Bengal. Officers and jawans paid tribute to martyrs at the war memorial in Sukna. Lt Gen KJ Singh, GOC, Trishakti Corps, laid a wreath.

Bonhomie and friendship was also witnessed at the Indo-Bangladesh border at Petrapole. MK Jha, officiating commandant of the 40Bn Border Security Force handed over a fruit basket and sweets to Subedar Md Badshah, company commander, Border Guard Bangladesh BOP Benapole. Students teachers from two schools Primary School Petrapole and Primary school Jayantipur also participated in the function.

The local population from both sides of the international border witnessed the ceremony in large numbers. Sweets were distributed among them as well. Back at the BSF's South Bengal Frontier headquarters in Kolkata, inspector general Rajnikant Mishra unfurled the National Flag on the occasion of 65th Republic Day on Sunday.
