Speaking at an event organized by the Center of Entrepreneurial Excellence (CEE) here, Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP member and deputy leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and Meenakshi Lekhi, national spokesperson of the BJP, said their party was committed to creating a more conducive startup culture in the country.
Lekhi broadly outlined a vision of having two startup-cum-skill-development hubs - one in Bangalore and the other in Delhi, which would help spur the entrepreneurial drive amongst youngsters.
"Whatever is required for a startup is not available. Any new startup requires a lot of risk taking and with that comes innovation," said Lekhi, adding that the country doesn't have systems in place that allow people to take risks.
She said lack of skill development was an area that was hindering entrepreneurship and noted that the country's education system was producing far too many 'unemployable graduates'.
Ravi Gururaj, head of the Nasscom Product Council, said that the present education curriculum in the country needed radical change. "We have lots of good educational institutions, but in the new world that's going through tectonic shifts in how technology is applied, our curriculum has to become more relevant," he said.
Gururaj, who is also the co-founder of Frictionless Ventures that invests in startups, said that any new government would have to invest in creating more research and development institutions in the country.
"All the great technology hubs of the world have enveloped themselves or is built around great academic institutions where core research happens," said Gururaj.
