The book, which will be launched in New Delhi soon, talks of the Gujarat chief minister's humble background and his phenomenal rise in national politics.
"We have shipped copies of the biography to Islamabad and some other countries. Modi now has international appeal and people believe that he is the best answer to many problems our country currently faces," said Garg. This is the second book on Modi to be published by Delhi-based Manas Publications. The first book, 'Modi to Moditva' by Nirendra Dev, has been selling well since its publication in 2013.
According to director of Roli Books, Kapil Kapoor, 'The Namo story: A Political Life', has also seen a jump in sales because of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. "It has seen a 20% rise in sales lately," Kapoor said. The publisher, who has also published the English translation of Mamata Banerjee's autobiography, says it is only the Modi biography that has seen a spurt in sales.
Likewise, Tranquebar Press, which has also published books on Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, calls its 'Narendra Modi: The Man, The Times' by Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay, a bestseller. Sudha Sadhanand, managing editor, Westland Ltd Tranquebar Press, said that when the book was released in 2013, Modi was yet to be declared BJP's PM candidate. "There was speculation and curiosity about a man who was said to be playing a decisive role in Indian politics. The sales of the book have, therefore, seen a steady growth. There has been constant demand for it and we have also published it in paperback. It has sold over 10,000 copies and that is good news for any political biography," said Sadhanand.
