MYSORE: Ahead of the notification for the Lok Sabha polls from Mysore and Chamarajnagar constituencies, BJP launched its campaign even as Congress continued the padayatra seeking to connect to the people.

On Sunday, CM Siddaramaiah hit the campaign trail canvassing for the Congress candidate R Dhruvanarayan, the sitting MP from Chamarajnagar Lok Sabha constituency, at Kollegal while BJP candidate for Mysore Pratap Simha launched the campaign with a bike rally organised by NaMo Brigade in the city.

Siddaramaiah, who has the onerous task of electing the party candidates from Mysore and Chamarajnagar to continue his hold over Mysore district, his native, campaigned for Dhruvanarayan telling the electorate that the MP has earned goodwill cutting across caste and community lines given his performance. He is a good leader and should get reelected for the development of the border district, he stated addressing the party workers rally at Kollegal, 60 kms from here. Dhruvanaryan, who as elected to the assembly in 2008 from Kollegal defeating A R Krishnamurthy of BJP, was fielded from Chamarajnagar Lok Sabha constituency in 2009. He completed hat-trick defeating Krishnamurthy-earlier he had trounced Krishnamurthy from Santhemarahalli assembly segment in 2004. Referring to it, Siddaramaiah said Dhruvanarayan should be re-elected to continue to focus on the growth of the district. This comes amidst Krishnamurthy continuing the campaign holding meetings with the key local leaders in BJP and meeting the people.

After touring Chamarajnagar district, Siddaramaiah checked into the city in the evening and held meetings with the party leaders. However, he didn't campaign for the Mysore candidate Adagooru H Vishwanath, who earlier in the day launched a padayatra in Narasimharaja constituency with the local MLA Tanveer Sait. The Congress workers started the padayatra at 9.45 am and visited many localities before taking a lunch break at 2.45 pm. They continued the campaign in the evening.

Meanwhile, BJP candidate from Mysore toured the city and held meetings with the party leaders. This is first time after his candidature was announced that Simha, who is facing opposition from local BJP leaders on the grounds that he is an outsider, hit the streets. He toured in the city's three assembly constituencies-Krishnaraja, Chamaraja and Narasimharaja-and attended a meeting of office bearers of the city and district units of the party. He later met the BJP corporators seeking their support even as he said he will shift to Mysore. According to a local BJP leader, he will stay put at the residence of a former minister in J P Nagar.

Discontent persists

The activists of NaMo Brigade participated in the rally riding over 150 motorbikes. Except MLC Go Madhusudana and former legislator Thontadarya, other senior leaders including MLC C H Vijayshankar continue to stay away from the BJP's campaign. Vijayshankar, who was a strong aspirant for the ticket and expressed his resentment for fielding Simha, has gone out of the constituency. A local BJP leader said he is away in Bangalore and will join the campaign from Monday.

With JD(S) yet to announce the candidates for both the seats, there is not much activities in the JD(S) camp.
