MANGALORE: From a political analyst to a politician, Yogendra Yadav, member of the National Executive of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come a long way in life.
So how does it feel to be on the other side of the fence? I have only realised how little I understood about politics and how little I knew about my birth place Gurgaon. So it's been humbling experience,'' said Yadav.
Pointing out that personally the change was not so drastic since he had done enough things other than psephology, he said his involvement in social movement in the last three decades and his failed attempt in 2004 and 2009 in the last decade to create an alternative political forum in the country had taught him something.
Travelling all over the country getting to know social issues all that is not new. What was new was the business of actually contesting - that I should say I did not know much. I have learnt quite a lot,'' he added.
So if he ever went back to psephology would he add something from this new experience? I would do things very differently. Much of our political analysis, or at least what I used to practise was macro, while politics is lived in its micro reality. And much of the political analysis is retrospective while in politics you needed prospective wisdom. Much of political science is about giving understanding, but politics is about skills. I really think that the understanding of politics need to be revamped drastically,'' he observed.
Yadav who contested from Gurgaon said he would not be even able to hazard a guess about his prospects since a candidate is bombarded with positive information and in fact knows very little of what is going on.
So from all this experience would he start a school of political analytics? Certainly not. I would be happy running a school of politics rather than a school of political science and analytics. Because politics is about creating a future. Politics is 'Yuga Dharma' of our times and participating in politics is highest activity any human being is capable of,'' he noted.
