Madhya Pradesh minister supports Smriti Irani, reminds Omar that threats won't work on India

BHOPAL: After Uma Bharati, Madhya Pradesh minister for urban administration and housing Kailash Vijayavargiya came out in support of Union HRD minister Smriti Irani who is in the eye of a storm over her educational qualifications and a raging debate whether she is indeed a graduate as she claimed in an affidavit before Election Commission before the 2004 general election.

Vijayavargiya, on Wednesday afternoon tweeted, "People who are surviving in their political careers by flattering Mrs Sonia Gandhi, please tell us — which is the University from which Mrs Sonia Gandhi graduated and Rahul Gandhi who failed to become the Prime Minister of the country was the meritorious student from which University?"

The minister also tweeted, "Those who live in glass houses should think a 100 times before throwing stones at others. If this debate stretches, it will have far reaching consequences."

Speaking to reporters, Vijayavargiya quipped, "The Congress has no right to point an accusing finger at the BJP on academic qualifications. Congressmen should first take a good look at their own party's academic brilliance before picking on others."

Vijayavargiya also spoke on the Article 370 argument between the BJP-RSS combine and Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah. The cabinet minister said, "Omar Abdullah's tweet and statements should be condemned and denounced. He should understand that threats do not work on the Indian nation and its democracy. As far as the BJP is concerned, revoking Article 370 is not a new demand. It has always been part of our agenda."

The minister was reacting to Omar Abdullah's tweet on Tuesday which said, "So the new MOS PMO says process/discussions to revoke Art 370 have started. Wow, that was a quick beginning. Not sure who is talking. Mark my words & save this tweet - long after Modi Govt is a distant memory either J&K won't be part of India or Art 370 will still exist. Art 370 is the ONLY constitutional link between J&K & rest of India." Omar Abdullah's tweet was in response to minister of state in the PMO Jitendra Singh's statement on revoking Article 370.
