The 'supporting actor' has taken centre-stage. And Advani, Arun Jaitley and others are looking like junior artists in front of Narendra Modi. This is how filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is looking at the new developments in New Delhi, post the general elections.
The unfettered RGV took to his micro-blogging site to say that 'cinematically' a few years back, Modi used look like a supporting actor in front of Advani and Jaitley. "Now they look like junior artistes," Ram Gopal Varma said. Advani and Jaitley may surely not be appreciative of RGV's remarks but the filmmaker who did not vote in the elections simply spoke his mind.
With Narendra Modi set to take over the reins of the country as Prime Minister, the BJP is still to decide what role it would give senior leader L K Advani, who had always dreamt of sitting in the PM's chair. Arun Jaitley lost the polls from the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat despite a BJP and Modi wave in the country.
In the film industry, junior artistes are only used to enhance the image of the lead actor. They may be seen on the screen but not quite. They could be dancing but the cinematographer's main focus is on the hero. Scenes with junior artistes may be shot but the director is not obligated at all to show them on the screen. It is just a 'daily wage' routine job for junior artistes for whom, only pay matters at the end of the day. Stardom, they know, belongs to somebody else. In this case, the star is Narendra Modi, a fact that everyone acknowledges but do Advani and Arun Jaitley deserve the description that RGV has chosen to give them? A cinema man is entitled to his own usage of familiar jargon, one might argue.
