Anbumani urges railway minister to implement penCHENNAI: Former Union health minister and Dharmapuri MP Anbumani Ramdoss on Friday met railway minister Sadananda Gowda and urged him to implement the pending railway projects in Tamil Nadu.

Anbumani reminded the minister of the pending railway projects in the state, including extension of Egmore-Tambaram electric motor line to Villupuram, a release from the PMK said. This would benefit about three lakh people travelling to Chennai every day.

He demanded doubling of the track between Madurai and Kanyakumari.

The PMK youth wing leader requested the minister to implement the Chennai - Pondicherry new railway line which was sanctioned about 12 years ago. He said the work was not taken up because budgetary allocation had not been done.

"A new line between Tindivanam-Nagari via Vandavasi, Cheyyar, Arcot had been sanctioned. A new line between Tindivanam-Tiruvannamalai via Gingee was also sanctioned. But both of them are awaiting budgetary allocation," he said.

The former minister said people in Krishnagiri had been demanding a railway line between Jolarpet and Hosur via Krishnagiri. Incidentally, Krishnagiri is the only district headquarters without railway connectivity. This new line should be constructed, he added.

Old coaches, some of which are more than 25 years old, are used in long distance trains like those plying between Kanyakumari and New Delhi. These coaches should be replaced by new ones, he added.
