Speaking to newsmen before departing to Delhi, the minister, who earlier visited the plant and met the injured, said the committee, comprising of experts from the field of steel, would look into the causes for the gas leak. He said the committee would submit its report within 30 days.
The minister said the committee would also suggest remedies to prevent occurrences of such incidents in future. In a candid admission, the minister said the upkeep of some steel plants is an issue and steps were being taken to ensure their maintenance.
In response to a question, the minister clarified that the committee to probe the incident and it's cause would not have any official from SAIL. "It will be an independent committee of experts", he said.
Earlier, the minister met the families of the victims and consoled them for their loss. He assured that the next of kin of the victims would be given jobs as per the government's policy and relaxation in qualifications would be done, if required, to absorb them. He said the state government would also extend all possible help to the affected families.
The minister also announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the deceased victims (officials and employees) and Rs 10 for those who were working on contract basis. He also assured that the families of victims would be allowed to continue to stay in houses allotted to them by the BSP till the full terms of the deceased employees.
