In his letter to Modi, Vaiko said there was no rationale on the part of the Karnataka government to oppose the constitution of the CMB. The final award of the Cauvery tribunal had said that constituting such a body was of "utmost importance" to implement its decision, he said.
The leader of the BJP's alliance partner in Tamil Nadu reminded the Prime Minister of the letters chief minister J Jayalalithaa had sent to him demanding the constitution of the CMB. "Tamil Nadu chief minister's letter to you on the Cauvery issue is undisputable. Her letter expresses the feelings of people in Tamil Nadu. I am supporting the view of Tamil Nadu government," Vaiko said in the letter.
He said farmers in the Cauvery delta region had suffered losses for the past two years due to the inadequate release of water by Karnataka. The farmers in the districts like Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam have been suffering in a bigger level. Around five lakh acres of land would lose the Kuruvai crop, he said.
"Therefore, it is the duty of the Union government to constitute the Cauvery management board and the Cauvery water
regulation committee to implement the final order of the tribunal," he said in the letter.
