In an article on Times of India on Monday, Katju alleged that political pressure during the previous UPA regime had led to elevation of a judge despite charges of corruption against him.
In a letter to his cadres, DMK chief M Karunanidhi attacked Katju saying his statements were inconsistent and his recent remarks were an attempt to degrade judiciary.
Karunanidhi said Katju had apologized for his action in the past. "Is it proper for Press Council chairman to lose patience during media interview" he asked.
He also questioned Katju's revelations after ten years and his silence when UPA was in power. "Katju has needlessly and tacitly criticized the DMK. Why didn't Katju expose this when he was SC judge? Did Katju remain silent to get the chairmanship of Press Council of India? The judge has fallen from the stature of a judge by making such comments," Karunanidhi said in the statement.

The DMK leader also said that the statements praising Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa were motivated.
He also recalled Katju's strong remarks against the Jayalalithaa government last year. "Katju's Jayalalithaa praise appears to mount pressure on the disproportionate assets case verdict."
