Mallikarjun Kharge hailing from Gulbarga conceded the long pending demand of the area people and gave nod for the new railway division with Gulbarga as its headquarters. This new division fell under the jurisdiction of South Western railway division.
Kharge as railway minister not only included the proposal in the budget, he even went ahead with appointing an officer on special duty( rank of chief engineer) to work out the formation of Gulbarga railway division . Even Rs 5 crore was sanctioned for the purpose and Kharge using his influence without losing time got a land allotted for the division.
But a highly placed source in railway ministry told STOI that the project has been literally shelved and Rs 1000 has been earmarked for the work . " Even this year's budget has no mention or fund allocation for the two railway coach factories proposed at Yadgir and Kolar respectively for which even foundations stone was laid in last January February" the source disclosed , adding that most of the projects proposed by previous minister have been either failed to found a mention or have got no allocations.
However Kharge said as far his knowledge goes it has not been shelved, and by mistake a Rs 1000 has been allocated for the work. " Immediately I spoke to Sadananda Gowda and he directed his officials to rectify the mistake and allot Rs 10 crore" he said. " I don't think that the ministry will shelve the project as Gulbarga division work is clubbed with other two divisions elsewhere " he pointed out.
