Air India Express technical fault: Stranded passengers to reach Mangalore on Tuesday

MANGALORE : A major technical glitch had forced Air India Express to ground its Mangalore-bound aircraft at Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Saturday. The aircraft with 146 passengers bound to Mangalore was scheduled to reach here on Sunday at 5.30am.

Sources in Air India said the aircraft has been changed and will reach Mangalore on Tuesday at 5.30am. The Air India officer said brake assembly of the aircraft had failed. ``Though spare parts were flown from India, the glitch could not be rectified, hence a Calicut flight will bring back passengers to Mangalore then fly to Calicut from Mangalore International airport,'' the officials said. The passengers have been housed at Golden Tulip hotel at Dammam.

Health and family welfare Minister UT Khader said: As soon as I came to know of this problem, I contacted the external affairs and civil aviation ministry and also NGOs at Dammam to understand what had gone wrong. The Air India officials told me that it was a brake problem and they would arrange for an alternative flight to fly out passengers from Dammam to Mangalore on Monday night.
