Arumugam, who got a financial aid from the former chief minister in 2012, has been keenly waiting for the news of her release from the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore.
Arumugam caught Jayalalithaa's attention in September 2012 when he waited daily on the Radhakrishnan Salai with folded hands as her convoy passed by. The former chief minister gave him Rs 2 lakh when she came to know that four of his five sons had deserted him and his wife and he had to take care of a handicapped son. She also promised a monthly pension for him and a job for his son.
Arumugam, who stays in a small house at Ragavanayakan Thottam on Dr Natesan Road, said, "I lost interest in life because of Amma's absence here. I have to look after my family, but I don't feel like working when Amma is in prison. I want to see her pleasant face."
His wife, Loganayagi, said they had bought a three cent land at Uthiramerur near Chengalpattu with the money they got from the chief minister. "We have been receiving a monthly pension after we met Amma. We are confident that she would provide a job for our son," she said.
