The cadres started arriving outside the airport here from early morning and remained steadfast even when it poured heavily. Traffic movement on GST road leading to the airport was affected with hundreds of vehicles bearing AIADMK cadres heading towards the airport from Chennai and other districts throughout the day.
Apart from the cadres who arrived outside gate no. 6 of the airport to welcome their leader, thousands of cadres were standing along the GST route where traffic police had erected barricades to avert any untoward mishap. Chennai district collector, RDO and other senior government officials arrived at the airport to receive Jayalalithaa at around 4pm.

Jayalalithaa's SUV emerged out of the airport gate at 5 pm with Jayalalithaa seated in the front and her aide Sasikala and others in the back seat.
AIADMK cadres, who had been waiting for Jayalalithaa on roadsides since morning braving the heavy rain, shouted "Amma... Amma" as her convoy proceeded to her Poes Garden residence from the airport. Jayalalithaa acknowledge her supporters' cheers with a smiling face and folded hands.
Hundreds of flex boards were erected all through the route leading from the airport to Guindy hailing her as the true leader of Tamil Nadu. Party cadres were found fixing party flags on the centre median on this route at around 11am.

Her convoy slowed down at various places along the route where onlookers and party supporters were waving out to her.
Her SUV stopped in front of the Lord Ganesh temple at Kotturpuram and she offered prayers sitting inside the vehicle, as she did when she went to Bangalore on the verdict day on September 27.
Jayalalithaa's convoy reached her official residence at Poes Garden around 6pm almost an hour after she arrived at the airport.
Earlier, Jayalalithaa was released from jail after 21 days, a day after Supreme Court granted her bail in an 18-year-old disproportionate assets case.
Jayalalithaa stepped out of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison shortly after special court judge John Michael D' Cunha issued the release order.
Tamil Nadu chief minister O Pannerselvam, several ministers, MPs and legislators were in attendance to receive her near the prison after which she headed to HAL airport to fly back to Chennai by a special flight.
The special court had issued the order for release of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa from jail in accordance with the Supreme Court order granting her bail in the disproportionate assets case.

The release order by special judge John Michael D'Cunha came after a bond for Rs 2 crore was furnished and surety of assets offered. Copy of the Supreme Court order was also produced before the court by Jayalalithaa's lawyers.
Jayalalithaa's close aide Sasikala and her relatives Sudhakaran and Elavarasi also fufilled similar conditions.
The special court had sentenced them to four years in jail in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case on September 27.
In a major relief, the Supreme Court had on Friday granted bail to Jayalalithaa and three others, who had earlier tried in vain to secure it in the Karnataka high court.
