The court also directed the government to enhance the compensation for the victims' relatives. Earlier in the day, the government announced a Rs 5-lakh compensation for the kin of the victim.
Acting on a petition filed by the deceased person's uncle S Sakubar Ali of Thiruvadanai, Justice N Kirubakaran also directed the Crime Brach - Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) to ensure a speedy investigation into the murder.
The petitioner moved the court seeking a CB-CID probe into the incident and a second postmortem with ballistic experts after sealing the SP Pattinam police station.
Government advocate (criminal side) A P Balasubramanian informed the court that the scene of crime (police station) had already been sealed and tissues from the deceased's body had been collected for a ballistic test.
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu director general of police K Ramanujam transferred the inquiry into the case to the CB-CID.
Following it, petitioner's counsel SMA Jinnah sought more compensation and a government job for the victim's kin, and the judge passed the order giving direction to the government and the CB-CID.
