Panic grips as miscreants open fire in Jammu, two held

JAMMU: Panic gripped the posh Trikuta Nagar locality of the winter capital when two youths fired at a religious complex and fled away in a car, police said on Thursday. The duo was arrested by the police this afternoon.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Uttan Chand while briefing the media person this evening said, "Two youth in a car, this afternoon fired at the building of a religious place (temple) and escaped from the spot in Trikuta Nagar area." He said that some eye witnesses immediately informed the police that the boys who fired were seemingly in an inebriated condition, following which messages were flashed to every police station and police posts and check posts of the district were put in alert.

He added that the miscreants were arrested from the Chowki Choura area of Akhnoor and an FIR had been registered under sections 307, 295, 295(A), 427 Arms Acts. Both of them are residents of Surankote Poonch, SSP Jammu said. Police recovered one 12 bore gun and six cartridges from their possession and seized their car bearing registration no JK 12 6209 too.
