HUBBALLI: The state government is neglecting the development of Hubballi-Dharwad, alleged Jagadish Shettar, the leader of opposition in the assembly, on Wednesday.

After reviewing ongoing development works in the city, he told reporters that the state government has not sanctioned any fund for the development of the twin cities. "Because of government's negligence, local elected representatives and corporators are being embarrassed by the people."

Shettar asserted that repairs of all major roads will begin by December 15 and will wrap up by the end of the month. "Construction of a 2-km-long concrete road from Hosur Cross to Gokul Road will be taken up soon. A proposal of Rs 17 crore for the renovation of the airport road has been submitted to the government."

The former chief minister reviewed road construction works at Deshpande Nagar, Unkal Sainagar Road, and directed officials to maintain high standards.

He was accompanied by mayor Shivu Hiremath, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation commissioner Noor Mansur, corporator Laxman Gandagalekar, former corporator Tippanna Majjagi and others.
