PUNE: The Pune division of Central Railway operated more holiday special trains till November as against holiday trains that were operated last year in the same period.
According to authorities, 785 holiday special trains ran till November, which was about 39% more than previous year, when the division had managed operations of 564 trains. Authorities said that special trains were operated to clear extra rush of passengers during holiday period like summer vacation and Diwali.
Authorities said that special trains were planned as per demands of passengers and ticket sales on a particular route. From Pune, trains operated to destinations in southern and northern parts. More such trains are planned in ongoing winter season, authorities said.
Frequent commuters said that besides additional trains they want the administration to augment coaches to existing trains. Vishal Dubey, who recently traveled from Pune to Delhi said that trains to northern parts always witness heavy rush. Bookings go full months ahead of journey dates. The administration needs to run more trains on such routes. Also, every train must run with minimum of 24 coaches instead of 18 or 19 coaches, Dubey said.
Another commuter Param Shah said that the administration should announce time-table of special trains well in advance. Shah said it becomes difficult for commuters to plan journeys if special trains are announced few days ahead of journey date.
