MYSORE: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has seemingly lost a point to score over people who encourage their kith and kin in politics .Contrary to his own statements of he being against dynastic politics, on Tuesday chief minister Siddaramaiah openly announced grooming his son Rakesh in politics besides virtually launching him as his political successor.

Till date Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had never introduced any of his family members to political arena. Siddaramaiah always maintained that he was against dynasty politics. Today there was a change in his thinking. For the first time, he openly said of grooming son Rakesh as his political successor.

Speaking at a public function at Varuna village in his Varuna assembly segment after laying the foundation stone and inauguration of projects worth Rs 120 crore chief minister said " I have assigned Rakesh regular duty of visiting and hearing public in Varuna represented by me".

"He (Rakesh) is neither a legislator nor an elected representative, but you (voters of Varuna segment) can discuss your problems, grievances and aspirations with him. Since I am a Chief Minister, I can't visit the constituency frequently as I have to take care of all 224 assembly segments" he said and added Rakesh will visit Varuna on regular basis and he has asked him to respond to the peoples problems and grievances.

"I have also deputed a senior official from my office Ramaiah, who will attend the constituency twice a week and ensure smooth implementation of all the developmental projects", he said.

However this categorical statement of Siddaramaiah to promote Rakesh in politics made the people in politics to comprehend Rakesh's entry into politics . In the past, especially on the eve of assembly elections there were rumours that Rakesh will be given Congress ticket to contest from neighbouring Chamundeshwari assembly constituency. It may be recalled here that and to be more specific , after his selection to CM's post in May, 2013, Siddaramaiah had told reporters in Bengaluru that, "I am still here in politics . Once I retire, he may want to come in, I don't know". This was his reaction when he was asked about political aspirations of Rakesh.

Meanwhile, indirectly seeking peoples support to his son Siddaramaiah thanked and attributed his political achievements to people of Varuna and Chamundeshwari assembly constituencies, who backed him all through his political careers spanning over four decades.
