Kuppa Venkateshwara Prasada Sharma chosen successor to Sringeri Sharada Peetham pontiff

CHENNAI: Twenty two-year-old Kuppa Venkateshwara Prasada Sharma has been chosen as the successor to Sringeri Sharada Peetham pontiff Sri Bharati Tirtha Swamiji, the 36th Jagadguru Shankaracharya of the unbroken lineage of the Peetham.

At a public function held in Sringeri on January 4 to mark the silver jubilee of Sri Bharathi Tirtha becoming a pontiff, the senior pontiff said he would initiate Sharma into sanyasa on January 23.

Sharma was born to Kuppa Shivasubrahmanya Avadhani and Seetha Nagalakshmi at Tirupati in the Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

He learned the basic lessons on the Vedas and Upanishads from his father. Later, he came to Sringeri and became a disciple of the senior pontiff.
