Tablet based reporting of health data begins in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: Union Health Minister, JP Nadda, on Saturday inaugurated the Chhattisgarh government's computer tablet based reporting system for collection of health related data of mothers and their infants in the state.

Launching the programme, Nadda said this would be adopted as a model across the country. The minister distributed computer tablets to ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives) to record data about mothers and their children.

Nadda said this is an ambitious scheme for collection of health-related information and in tune to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's, dream of implementing the concept of Digital India and e-governance across the country. He said that on the basis of effectiveness of this scheme, it would be included in the National Health programme and will be made mandatory for other states also.

In the first phase of this pilot project, nearly 380 ANMs were provided computer tablets under Urban Health programme. According to officials of health department, tablet-based information system will not only enable ANMs for quick and accurate reporting, it will also facilitate better monitoring of health programmes at directorate-level.

In his address, State Health and Family Welfare Minister, Amar Agrawal said 30 per cent of the total urban population of Chhattisgarh resides in slums. He said too provide them better health facilities the state government had initiated an Urban Health Programme on the lines of Rural Health Programme, which was later included in National Health Programme by Government of India. He said through the tablet-based health reporting system it will be ensured that pregnant mothers and infants are vaccinated on time.

Agrawal said this system will also be linked to aadhaar card and the amount provided under Janani Suraksha Yojana will be transferred directly to the bank account of beneficiaries.

Health Department Principal Secretary, Dr Alok Shukla said that tablet based information system will particularly include health awareness, healthcare, transfer of incentive under Janani Suraksha Yojana directly into bank accounts. Tablets will also be used as a medium for telemedicine. He said ANMs will maintain a register in computer tablet in which they will store family-wise health data.
