Aero India: Now Make in Karnataka is the new buzz word

BENGALURU: Pitching to brand the state on the lines of Make in India, chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday announced the concept of "Make in Karnataka".

During the Aero India show here on Wednesday, sharing the dais with Modi, the CM said Karnataka was a pioneer in the aerospace sector and the robust growth potential of aerospace industry was attracting global majors to set up their unit in the state.

Justifying for his pitching for Make in Karnataka brand, the CM said that Bengaluru was the aerospace hub of the country, having more than 65% of the country's investment in the sector. Besides, the big presence of public sector enterprises, International private players like European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, Boeing, Airbus, HCL, Honeywell and UTC Aerospace had invested in aerospace sector in the state. "The state has announced the country's first Aerospace Policy 2013-23 for overall development of the sector, which envisages providing adequate infrastructure and incentives," he said.

Going into the history of aviation advantage Karnataka had, Siddaramaiah said India's first private aircraft factory, Hindustan Aircraft Limited was established in Bengaluru in 1940 and later re-named as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited after nationalization. "Subsequently establishment of Defence PSUs - Bharat Electronics, Gas Turbine Research Establishment, National Aeronautical Laboratory, Defence Research Development Organization, Aeronautical Development Agency, Aeronautical Development Establishment, Indian Space Research Organization, Indian Institute of Science have positioned Karnataka as a prime location for aerospace industry in the country," he said.

Calling upon the investors to utilize the opportunity, the CM maintained that the United Nations has ranked Bengaluru, as fourth in the World as a Global hub of technological innovation. "Karnataka hosts all the global leading IT companies including Infosys, Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services, Oracle, Dell, IBM, Microsoft, Accenture, Cognizant among others," he said.

Siddaramaiah's speech placing the concept of Make in Karnataka was also posted by Prime Minister's Office's (PMO) on its twitter handle @PMOIndia.
