Police said the painter, Gurunathan, was a relative of one of the boys. The painter had been allegedly harassing the boy's sister, police said.
The brother of the girl and his friends decided to eliminate him. They waited for him near a lake in the area and stabbed him to death when he reached there. Later, they dumped the body in the bushes.
When Gurunathan failed to return home, his mother searched for him. She told the neighbours that she was going to file a police complaint.
The boys, who came to know about her decision to file a police complaint, got scared and went to the Mangadu police station where they confessed to their crime.
They took the police to the spot where they had dumped the body. The police retrieved the body and sent it for postmortem.
All the four have been arrested and sent to a juvenile home.
