CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu police on Thursday claimed to have major breakthrough in the attack on Tamil TV channel's office. Police arrested four persons, who are believed to have hurled crude bombs at the office of Puthiya Thalaimurai, reports said.

Report said police identified the suspects from CCTV footages gained from the channel's office. Earlier, a 44-year-old man, who identified himself as the Madurai district president of a little known outfit, the Hindu Ilaignar Sena, surrendered in the judicial magistrate court here on Thursday claiming responsibility for a bomb attack on the office of a Tamil TV channel in Chennai.

A group of four unidentified men attacked the office of a Tamil TV channel for airing the promos of a debate that questioned the need of 'mangal sutra', a necklace that Hindu married women are obligated to wear.

The attackers, who were on two motorcycles, hurled crude bombs at the channel's office at Ekkaduthangal Thursday early morning. Police said the bombs that were kept in tiffin boxes were of low intensity, and there was no damage to the office of the Puthiya Thalaimurai TV channel. No one was injured either.

The attack came four days after a cameraman of the channel was allegedly assaulted by a few Hindu Munnani activists. The TV channel faced protests by some groups against its decision to telecast a debate on 'mangal sutra.'

Condemning the attack, union minister of state for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore today condemned the incident in which crude bombs were hurled at the office of a popular Tamil TV channel and termed the act as "unacceptable".

"This is not acceptable in our country. The programmes of television are governed by a programe code which is part of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994.

"Viewers are free to write to us (I&B ministry), to the News Broadcasters Association, Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) or to Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) if its regarding any advertisement if they feel. Nobody is allowed to take law in his hand," Rathore said.
