INLD opposes land bill, alleges Modi government back-stab farmers community

CHANDIGARH: Haryana's main opposition party, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) on Tuesday strongly apposed the proposed amendment in the land acquisition bill during the discussion on the bill in Lok Sabha.

The development is significant, as the party had extended support to the Narendra Modi led NDA government at centre.

Addressing the house, the party MP, Dushyant Chautala also requested the central government to send the bill to the standing committee for reconsideration after taking into account the adverse effect of the bill on the farmers. Cautioning the central government not to stab in the back of farmers community, the INLD MP said that the land already acquired by the government has not been properly utilized.

Dushyant informed the house that 70,000 acres of land have been acquired in the past ten years but those displaced after losing their lands have not been properly rehabilitated till date.
Opposing the land acquisition amendment bill, Dushyant added that the central government's actions to amend the bill would only benefit big corporate houses of the country.

Dushyant Chautala also stated that several members of the parliament (MPs) from the agriculture producing states wanted to vote against the bill but because of their political compulsions, they could not do that.

The youngest MP also stated that if the Land acquisition bill was passed, the entire fertile land of the state of Haryana would be acquired in next few years.

The Hisar MP also attacked the union minister Birender Singh for supporting the bill and said that during his association with the congress party, he had supported the original land acquisition bill and now with the change of loyalty to BJP, he is supporting a bill, which is anti farmers and completely opposite to original bill.
