Ditto with 20,000 citizens of Karnataka including industrialists, personalities from Sandalwood, bureaucrats and other citizens. The list includes state food minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
About 15,000 of them are from Bengaluru itself.
Dharmendra Pradhan, union minister of petroleum and natural gas (independent charge) launched the nationwide movement `Give It Up' in Bengaluru on Saturday. However, he said that the money earned back into the system will not be looked as savings for the loss-making oil companies.
"About 60% of the populace is connected through LPG and the rest who are not are from weaker sections of the economy. PM Modi's vision is to connect the entire country through LPG and that is why the money that will be earned from people who give up their subsidy will be used to give subsidy to a new consumer," he said.
The Centre aims to achieve one crore target of people giving up subsidies on LPG by the end of this financial year which will translate to about Rs3000 crores, he said. This will be used to give subsidy to poor people who will be brought under the LPG-Pahal network.
