KOCHI: India needs to have new models of development, especially in the education sector, said National Innovation Council (NIC) chairman Sam Pitroda.

"Today education is too exclusive. Western model of education is not workable in India as it is based on consumption", said Pitroda. "We still use processes that were used 80 years ago. It is now obsolete. We find lots of resistance to change", he added.

Currently adviser to the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations, Pitroda said that innovation agenda for India is all about productivity, new wealth creations and opportunities.

"The best way to kill innovation is to pack up various councils and committees with government officials. We need to have people from diverse fields in the councils and committees", he said.
