BANGALORE: Principal opposition party JD(S) has dismissed former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's proposal of united opposition to take on the Congress in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Opposition leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy told reporters in the legislative assembly lounge on Wednesday that JD(S) was not interested in joining hands with BJP. "H D Deve Gowda (JDS national president) will not allow the party either to join hands or forge an alliance with BJP. This is ruled out," Kumaraswamy maintained.
Explaining why the alliance won't work out, the JD(S) state president said the party unit in Shimoga is firmly against the BJP. Of the eight assembly segments in Shimoga, JD(S) has won three seats and lost by narrow margin in two segments. Yeddyurppa's son B Y Raghavendra represents Shimoga Lok Sabha. "Party leader in the district Madhu Bangarappa wants JD(S) to go all alone in the coming polls. Same is the case in constituencies in north Karnataka," Kumarswamy said.
Yeddyurappa has mooted an idea that all the opposition parties - BJP, JD(S), BSR and KJP - should unite and enter into pre-poll alliance to defeat Congress in the Lok Sabha polls. However, the proposal was one sided as BJP also declined to react positively to it. BSR party supremo B Sriramulu has expressed that he was interested in aligning with only BJP.
Kumaraswamy has also ruled out any chances of pre-poll alliance with Yeddyurappa headed Karnataka Janata Party (KJP). "There is no such proposal before us. Neither we have moved such an idea or they (KJP) have come forward," he said.
