"Special arrangements have been made for polling booths in the flood-affected areas. Schools will be used for polling booths and additional manpower will be deployed in these areas," chief electoral officer Radha Raturi said.
According to state election commission records, over 67,86,000 voters will exercise their franchise in over 10062 booths in the five constituencies in the state. The election commission will provide disable-friendly booths in cities and postal voting for over 50,000 defense personnel posted in the state. State election commission officials are meeting with police and district administrations to make preparations.
The state election commission is yet to draw up the list of sensitive booths in the five constituencies. Booths identified as vulnerable to voting disruptions are termed sensitive.
"The list of sensitive poll booths is made after the nomination formalities of candidates are complete. So in this case it would be decided after the last date for cancelling nominations," Raturi said. The last date to file nominations is April 19 and the last date for cancelling nomination is April 23. Counting will start on May 16.
The campaigning budget in this election has been hiked to Rs 70 lakh for a candidate. Asked how the state election commission will keep tab on candidates' spending, Raturi said, "We are going to strictly monitor the campaigning details of all contestants with the help of mobile teams using video cameras, and by looking at the contestants' expenses."
