Karnataka governor bats for democratic socialism

BANGALORE: Governor of Karnataka Hans Raj Bharadwaj on Friday said democratic socialism has to be materialized to uplift the poor of the country. He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Co-operative Election Commission Office at Shathinagar in Bangalore.

The governor said the cooperative sector had huge potential in the independent India. "The leaders of the country were not sure of its future, hence it suffered. The cooperative sector after a lot of research was proved the lifeline of rural credit. The farmer community has been getting enormous support by the co-operative sector," he added.

Governor also emphasized on the need to improve the rural economy and health to see the progress of the country. The government have to strengthen the cooperative movement not only by providing funds but also by holding elections uphold the democratic system. The Election Commissioner and related officers must enjoy the institutional freedom and not be pressurized by political interference, he added.
