MANGALURU: Former minister Krishna J Palemar who took over as president of Mangaluru city north assembly constituency unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has blamed the Congress leaders in Dakshina Kannada district for the free run that drug runners are having across the district. The trade in ganja and drugs is rampant in the district and this is one of the primal reasons for the recent communal incidents in Ullaibettu area of Mangaluru taluk, he noted.
Concerted attempts are being made to divert attention of the people to the failures of the district in-charge minister and home minister to the succinct assault on the cultural observances, and beliefs of people of the majority community in the region. Palemar exhorted the party workers to take these challenges head on and create awareness among the people on the reasons for the various happenings in the district in general and the constituency in particular.
Prasad Kumar, general secretary of Mangaluru zone of the party said Palemar and his team of office bearers that includes Ashok Kumar as general secretary and Muralidhar Shetty will remain in charge of the unit till such time that regular office bearers are appointed. Prasad said a decision to this effect has been taken by the district unit of the party keeping in mind the various developments or lack of it, seen during the tenure of the earlier team of the unit.
Capt Brijest Chowta (retired), district co-convener of the party's membership campaign gave a brief overview of the party's membership campaign. A strategy was formulated to give further fillip to the ongoing membership campaign under the leadership of heads of various 'shakti kendras' of the party. Umanath A Kotyan, vice-president of district unit of the party, Sanjeev Matandoor, Kishore Rai, general secretaries, and other office bearers were present.
