INDORE: Ratlam police on Thursday foiled an attempt to illegally transport 49 cattle for slaughter to Malegaon district in Maharashtra.

On a tip-off, a team led by Jaora city SP, Dipak Shukla intercepted a truck-container numbered UP78 CM 3467 on Neemuch-Mhow highway at around 7.30am. The team during search found 49 cattle stuffed inside the container. The estimated cost of the cattle is Rs 25 lakh.

"These cattle were being smuggled in a container used for transportation of goods. We received information on Wednesday late night that a container carrying cattle will be passing via Jaora. We intercepted the container during patrolling and have arrested four accused," said CSP Shukla.

The truck-container had originated from Tonk district of Rajasthan and had to reach Malegaon slaughter house. Rescued cattle were sent to Jeev Daya Society of Jaora for rehabilitation, he added.
