JAIPUR: Street theater, puppet shows, audio video films, this time the election commission plans to go all out to convey the message asking people to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
While chalking out a strategy to achieve maximum electors, EC will use both traditional and modern mediums of communication. For villages and hamlets, it will spread the message through street theaters and puppet shows. For urban voters, online and electronic mediums will be used to encourage them for turning up at polling booths.
"We have already associated industries, real estate developers to spread our message. In this process we have also brought several government departments and colleges. For rural voters, tradition medium, which we feel is still very effective, will be widely used," said chief electoral officer, Ashok Jain.
After astounding success in the assembly polls, EC is upbeat about the voting percentage in the general elections. However, the commission is still trying to make all efforts in reaching out to electors in each constituency. Efforts to increase awareness and improve voter turnout, EC has sanctioned the highest budget for systematic education of voters and electoral participation programme ever.
To carry out the filed activities like rallies, street shows and many others EC has allocated additional budget of Rs 1 crore thus making a total of Rs. 1.4 cr. "We have already raised the budget during assembly polls. Almost a similar amount will be spent this time too," added Jain.
Meanwhile, EC's biggest concern remains the participation of young voters, women and urban electors. Most of the communication is being designed to target this segment. "We have seen that there is apathy among urban voters for elections. Though in assembly elections each segment of society participated and we are hoping that this time too a similar performance will be witnessed," said an official of Jaipur district election commission.
